The
Junior Wheelchair Sports Camp
The 2008 Wheelchair Sports
Camp is scheduled for July28~ Aug 1, 2008 at the Iowa School for the
Deaf.
The
camp’s purpose is to introduce sports, recreation and the associated
benefits to physically challenged youth.
These benefits include a chance to improve strength and
endurance, develop self-esteem and confidence, and meet others with
similar disabilities. Campers
also meet positive role models and are given opportunities to excel.
For volunteers, camp provides a great educational and rewarding
experience.
Campers:
are ages 5 - high school, and have a physical disability that prevents them from
participating equally with their abled-bodied peers.
Campers attend free of charge so that no deserving child is
denied the chance to attend.
Sports:
instruction includes archery, aquatics, basketball, body conditioning,
tennis, track and field, basketball, and softball to name a few.
Recreation and leisure activities may include photography,
pottery, creative dramatics, and ceramics.
