      The Junior Wheelchair Sports Camp


The 2008 Wheelchair Sports Camp is scheduled for July28~ Aug 1, 2008 at the Iowa School for the Deaf.   The camp’s purpose is to introduce sports, recreation and the associated benefits to physically challenged youth.  These benefits include a chance to improve strength and endurance, develop self-esteem and confidence, and meet others with similar disabilities.  Campers also meet positive role models and are given opportunities to excel.  For volunteers, camp provides a great educational and rewarding experience.  
     Karate LessonCampers: are ages 5 - high school, and have a physical disability that prevents them from participating equally with their abled-bodied peers.  Campers attend free of charge so that no deserving child is denied the chance to attend.  

     Sports: instruction includes archery, aquatics, basketball, body conditioning, tennis, track and field, basketball, and softball to name a few.  Recreation and leisure activities may include photography, pottery, creative dramatics, and ceramics.
