Union State Bank Building
(later known as Service Life Building)
1904 Farnam Street
1927
Architect: John Latenser and Sons
Art Deco Style
Designated Omaha Landmark: March 27, 1984

Designed by the prominent Omaha architectural firm of John Latenser and Sons, the Union State Bank Building represents a very early use of the Art Deco style of architecture in Omaha. The building predates other local Art Deco structures by several years. The design reflects the spirit of modernity instilled in Omaha architects in the 1920’s and 1930’s by the Nebraska State Capitol Competition, the 1925 Exposition des Arts Decoratifs in Paris, and leading architectural journals of the period.
