Federal Health Care Reform Act - Update
Per a new provision of the Federal Health Care Reform Act dependents can be carried under their parent?s coverage up to age 26. Since the City has a plan year of January 1, we will implement the federal provision starting January 1, 2011 to include dependents up to age 26 in two ways:
1. Active Employees: This will be done during open enrollment this fall.
2. Retirees: A letter will be sent the first part of November advising them about this change. They will have two weeks to contact the Benefits office and add dependents that meet the federal requirements.
In both cases, the dependent will be able to stay on the group health coverage through the month in which they turn age 26.
Over the Counter (OTC) Medication: Starting January 1, 2011 you will no longer be able to use your Flex Spending Account to pay for OTC medication unless it is prescribed by your doctor. The only exception to this rule is for Insulin.
If you need more information on these updates please contact Marci Wolters by email or at 444-5320.
