Parking Garage Lighting Retrofit

The Parking Garage Lighting Retrofit project involves the removal of metal halide lamp fixtures and the procurement and installation of LED fixtures and occupancy sensors in two parking garages, operated by the Omaha-Douglas Public Building Commission (PBC). The metal halide lamps used 185 watts of electricity; the LED replacements will use 62 watts and have a life expectancy of seven times longer than metal halide lamps.

The first project site, built in 1975, is a parking level located beneath the Omaha-Douglas Civic Center at 1819 Farnam Street, called Level B. Level B utilizes 148 lighting fixtures. The second project site, an eight story structure built in 2002, is located at 1910 Harney Street, just west of the Civic Center. This structure utilizes 286 lighting fixtures.

Over the past several years, the PBC has taken steps to reduce energy consumption in these facilities by establishing an operating procedure that details time schedules for lighting based on expected occupancy and minimum safety requirements. The replacement of the lighting will further reduce energy consumption and significantly improve maintenance requirements.
