Building Program/Audits and Assessments

The Building Program/Audits and Assessments project is a comprehensive effort to target energy efficiency and conservation efforts within the operations and maintenance of the City's existing building stock.

Through a joint agreement with the University of Nebraska, this project involved graduate students to inventory and assess over 80 city-owned facilities, including fire and police stations, libraries, and community centers. Under the direction of the Kiewit Building Group, the students worked throughout 2010 with the City of Omaha's Facilities Manager to create profiles for each facility in the EPA’s EnergyStar Portfolio Manager and prioritize retrofit opportunities.

Until March 2012, a single graduate student will be retained to continuously improve the database tool generated during the inventory and assessment. Tasks may include developing a GIS plug-in to supplement data management, generating trend reports, and supporting the documentation of retrofit work on the city's buildings.

Status: In Progress

Currently, an intern is working to improve the database and add reporting features.  GIS is looking to help by adding a mapping component.
