Leadership by example. This is an essential attribute of governance.

The Municipal Green Team has implemented an effort to build momentum related to sustainability issues amongst city and county staff. Representatives from each department have been invited to participate in bi-monthly meetings to develop strategies and share their departmental successes and challenges.

The Green Team held its second Quick Pitch Challenge to encourage municipal employees to conserve energy in April of 2012. The winner from the 2012 Quick Pitch Challenge was Trevor Oestmann. He made a wonderful presentation to pitch his concept to the Green Team. His concept was titled "Shed Light on Energy Efficiency in the Work Place" and it will allow the City, County and the Public Building Commission to install approximately 280 occupancy room sensors to control lights throughout their respective facilities.  Meeting, supply, break, and restrooms will be targeted to help with energy efficiency throughout these facilities. The sensors automatically shut off the lights in the room if there is no one in it.  The goal is to have the sensors installed by the end of July.

The winner from the 2011 Quick Pitch Challenge was Andy Szatko. His concept was well very well articulated during his quick pitch presentation. To learn more about his idea, please click Sinking Omaha's Water Usage.
